No SR20, but I spotted a black Mercedes R63 AMG on the toll road this morning. License plate said "ONE-OF-30." Can that be right? I could swear Mercedes made more than 30 of these. I saw a different one a few years back.

I would say there are more than 30, but still, the R-class sells super poorly. In fact it will be discontinued after this model. Can't imagine too many R63s around then if the base car already is being by potential buyers.

It's definitely in the double digits.

So basically a Chrysler Pacifica SRT, then?

There are more than 30. I think the number I heard was 59, but I don't remember. They have the production numbers at MB World, in some thread. It's still an amazing sighting.

They made more, but I think 30 or so were shipped to the US. Couldn't find official numbers, though.

Similar sizes, but entirely different platforms. The Pacifica was built on the Caravan/Town-and-Country chassis.

It's been gone for a couple of years already, at least in the US. It was pulled from the US market in 2012.

One of my go-to tactics for trolling is pretending everything is simply badge engineering. I usually find it equal parts inflammatory and informative. :-)

Maybe it's one of 30 in that color? I hate when people try and tell me how rare their car is and then cite the options sheet for proof.

Totally forgot this, you are right. The Mercedes Website doesn't list it anymore. I was a bit confused because in 2013 around 400 R-classes were newly registered in Germany.

Maybe there was only one of 30 in that color, which I might believe, given how few of them were sold at all.

I read that 100 were built in total; no idea how many made it to the US.

There is one for sale down the street from me:

I saw a chocolate brown one with dealer plates a while back. I promptly turned into a dragon.
It was also the last German car I've ever really wanted. A fast normal car is cool, I suppose, but when you mix fast and stupid, magic happens.

IIRC (and I dinnae recall where I saw this), total worldwide production for the R63 was 100 units. If that's true, than being one of 30 in the US is entirely possible.

they made a bunch of R55's, but the R63 was a rare beast indeed.

There was never a production R55, though. The only AMG R-Class was the R63 , introduced in 2006 for the 2007 model year.
